I found chapter 4 to be an interesting section of The Bedford Book of Genres because it appealed to my likenesses. It talks about how to form an effective persuasive essay as well as their importance in our lives. Chapter 4 included examples of persuasive genres such as resumes and political journals. Such texts utilize persuasive techniques that can be useful within papers required in this class.
The most interesting section I found within chapter 4 were the two pages that talk about the effects of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos on a persuasive genre. I never would have thought to use them separately within a paper I was writing. BBG talks on pages 180 and 181 about how the specific portions of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos tie into constructing a better persuasive essay. It says that Ethos is required for your audience to take you seriously when it comes to the subject matter that you are attempting to convince them of. Logos is most important for taking an objective approach to your argument by using logical facts and statistics to back up your claim. And finally, BBG includes an example of a salesperson exploiting Pathos with a customer. Overall a very conclusive chapter, which is expected from one that discusses the possible persuasiveness of genres.
